La 42ª edición de los MTV Video Music Awards se celebró este domingo 7 de septiembre en la UBS Arena de Elmont, Nueva York. La ceremonia reunió a lo más destacado de la industria musical y premió a los lanzamientos más exitosos y a los videos más aclamados del último año.
Uno de los momentos más comentados de la noche fue el dominio de Lady Gaga, la artista más nominada de esta edición con 12 menciones, gracias en parte a su reciente colaboración con Tim Burton en un videoclip que ya es considerado icónico. La llamada Mother Monster se llevó el premio a Artista del Año, superando a figuras como Beyoncé, Taylor Swift y The Weeknd. Bruno Mars y Kendrick Lamar, quienes seguían de cerca con 11 y 10 nominaciones respectivamente, también brillaron en varias categorías.
El evento estuvo conducido por el legendario rapero y actor LL Cool J, acompañado por un variado grupo de presentadores que incluyó a Ashlee Simpson, Ciara, Drew Barrymore, Ice Spice, Jessica Simpson, Ejae, Audrey Nuna y Rei Ami, entre otros.
Además de los galardones por votación, la noche tuvo reconocimientos especiales: Ricky Martin recibió el premio Ícono Latino, mientras que Busta Rhymes fue distinguido con el Rock the Bells Visionary Award.
